LA Whey Review
The people at "LA" are rather well-known for making fitness supplements
aimed at the top end of the market. The brand is synonymous
with tanned torsos, six-packs and bulging biceps. "LA Whey", their
attempt at monopolizing the whey protein market is no different.
With a gargantuan 48g of cross, micro and ultra filtered whey
(to ensure an absolute lack of lactose), the product decription promises big
things in the way of muscle building potential and quality ingredients. But
can we put our faith (and earnings) on LA Fitness to deliver at the same level
as Maximuscle's Cyclone product?
I almost choked on a dumbell when I saw the price tag on this product.
Granted, it comes in a hefty 2.2kg tub (larger than your average by
about 0.5kg) but this is the first product I've reviewed by way of
borrowing against the equity in my home. By this early stage, I already
had huge expectations and did not anticipate being disappointed!
So, home I came after a gruelling session on the punchbag
followed by an equally traumatic full upper-body workout expecting a tasty
shake that would leave me in a position to train again in two days' time.
Initially I had some serious trouble trying to turn milk + powder =
shake. Turns out the people at LA fitness don't account for people who
don't possess a blender, and my usually excellent shaker bottle had
genuine difficulty acting as a replacement.
Shock and awe. This protein doesn't just taste strange, it tastes like
theres a party in my mouth and the contents of my cleaning cupboard are
invited! Okay, thats probably a slight exaggeration, it tastes a little
better than Maximuscle Cyclone (thankfully) and doesn't sit in your
stomach like a lead weight for the entire day. I had another shake
before bed, and awaited the morning's results with trepidation...
Success! Given the weight I'd lifted the previous day, I felt
positively excellent the next morning. Slight soreness, but the protein
had clearly done its job to the fullest extent. In fact, it made the
whole incident with the shaker and re-mortgaging my house almost worth
it! It seems there's a correlation between protein powders that taste
like chemicals and their effectiveness upon the human body, but I'd
gladly suffer it for the gains.
Unfortunately, because I have to review so many different products I
often have to cut the dosage short, and LA Whey is one such casualty so
I can't vouch for how a month's use would benefit you. However, I
definitely saw some size and definition gains towards the end of my
fortnight. If you have the cash to spare, and the requisite lack of
tastebuds, opt for LA Whey.
